Friday Gift Exchange 8/3/2012
My friends at college started a game. Our goal is to find the worst news stories, be it bad journalism, people being terrible people, stupid politicians, and stories that just all around make us cringe. And now I am bringing that game to the blog. Welcome to another Friday Gift Exchange. While I will try to keep it politically balanced, we all tend to lean pretty liberal. Protip, Charlie tends to focus on the comments sections a lot.
First up, is Sean’s submission
http://storify.com/homophobes/top-50-homophobic-chick-fil-a-tweets
A collection of 50 tweets about Chick-fil-a from homophobes. While you can have your own opinion of whether the Chick-fil-a boycott, but can we all agree “want[ing] some faggots to die” is not an appropriate response to anything? I feel that is enough said.
From me
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/08/02/swipe-file-rush-limbaugh-and-dungeons-and-dragons/
A comparison of American conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh’s most recent newsletter and the cover of a Dungeons and Dragons manual. Incidentally, for those of you who have no problem gracing Gawker sites, io9’s version of this story has to be the first time in internet history the comments section actually improved something. (NSFW)
http://io9.com/5931018/rush-limbaughs-newsletter-rips-off-the-dungeons—dragons-monster-manual
From Charlie, submitted with just “Why?”
http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/events/aurora-colorado-theater-shooting#fandom
The know your meme page for the Aurora shooting last week. Apparently its a meme now. And there is fan art. I. Uh. Buh. I would like to echo Charlie’s “Why?” now.
And lastly, from Brittany
http://thecelebritycafe.com/feature/2012/07/sarah-palins-grandson-tripp-palin-calls-willow-faggot-video
Tripp Palin (grandson of one time Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin) calling his mother and aunt faggots. And they just laugh. And I think my brain died last story and can’t even process anything to say about this one.
And that’s it for this week’s Gift Exchange. Hope you enjoyed the pain. If you want more presents throughout the week, follow me on Twitter.
Sean is the writer over at Another Gamer Guy, a blog discussing board gaming, video gaming, other gaming and just nerdy stuff. Charlie blogs about soccer, alternate history, international politics and other nerdy endeavors over at Time Stream. He also writes an alternate history timeline called Liberty and Union. Brittany stoically endures all the terrible gifts and presents we send her (and has apparently learned to fight back this week).

Friday Gift Exchange 7/27
So my friends at college started a game. Our goal is to find the worst news stories, be it bad journalism, people being terrible people, stupid politicians, and stories that just all around make us cringe. And now I am bringing that game to the blog. Welcome to the first Friday Gift Exchange. While I will try to keep it politically balanced, we all tend to lean pretty liberal. Protip, Charlie tends to focus on the comments sections a lot.
First up is from my friend Sean:
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/07/13/georgia-home-schooled-girl-punished-with-shock-collar-because-the-bible-says/
A story from Georgia about a girl who was made to wear a shock collar and live in a chicken coop as discipline.
Next is Charlie’s submission:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/us-news-blog/2012/jul/26/mitt-romney-britain-gaffes
A collection of Mitt Romney’s political blunders while in the UK.
Now for Brittany’s link:
http://news.yahoo.com/confused-911-caller-outs-nypd-spying-nj-084732106.html
An apartment superintendent found an NYPD safe house in his apartment complex. In New Brunswick, New Jersey. I don’t think I can explain more without this getting to much longer (Beware, there is a video that will play automatically while loading the site).
Lastly, we have my present for everyone:
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/jul/24/hurt-letter-christopher-nolan-sean-penn-warner-bro/?page=1
An editorial in the Washington Times claiming that Christopher Nolan, Sean Penn and Warner Brothers were all responsible for the tragic shooting in Aurora, Colorado last week. By peddling pornography. Words fail me.
And that’s it for this week’s Gift Exchange. If you want more presents throughout the week, follow me on Twitter.

Status update
So, excepting a sketch from earlier today, I haven’t really updated this in a while. Part of this is school’s fault, a lot of it is mine, and some small part is my current living situation. An illustration if you will:
,What you see, right there, is my work station. You might notice a blanket underneath it. That’s because it is also my bed. I don’t have a desk at my family’s place where I am currently residing. This makes drawing a pain in the butt, and hooking up the scanner moreso. But I am trying to get back in the swing of things.
Another problem is with the comic’s name. One of my friends told me a couple months back about Stick Comics at stickycomics.com, a comic with a similar premise to mine (but different in many key ways) that shares an unfortunately similar name. Except Cristiann Macauley (who draws, writes and own Sticky Comics to my knowledge) started her comics several years before I went through my brief get off my duff and do something phase. Oops. She very graciously let me keep the Sticky Notes Comic name with no muss, no fuss but I wasn’t sure I wanted to keep it. Even if the content itself is different (I believe that other than originating on sticky notes the two are pretty different) I really didn’t want to have my name so close to someone’s branded work. I could just never decide what I wanted to do about that.
But, gosh darn it, I do really miss posting comics and sharing stuff, so I’m going to try and make a more concerted effort to post stuff on the internet. I am currently writing and drawing a new comic that I will post some art for tomorrow (or maybe later tonight if I feel really ambitious and don’t feel like sleeping). I’m not sure Sticky Note Comics is entirely dead, but I’m certainly rethinking what I want to do with it. That is probably going to necessitate a name change around here…
(Also, if you really liked Stick Note Comics, let me know. I am more likely to do more from life stuff if people tell me they want more from life stuff).

So earlier today I played a game of Battlestar Galactica with a homemade expansion. I drew the characters in the game during the low points and then inked them later in the day. This is the result with no clean up.
-
My friends are terrible people and wanted me to make this and post it Tumblr. Requires knowledge of West Wing and Mass Effect. A little spoilery, sorry. And I’m still terrible with photo editing.
-
No, I’m not dead, I’m just busy.
So anyone actually interested in my comic has probably lost interest considering I last touched this blag last year (technically 3 months ago). Here’s the deal, January and February have been busy months. My last semester in general is shaping up to be a busy month. I’m hoping I can start updating soon, but 1)my scanner seems to like not working now 2)I might be in a little legal issue with the name of the comic that I’d like to resolve soon and 3)I’m working on ways to expand the comic. That last one is a bit of a teaser of what is to come, but nothing is concrete yet.
The good news? I have two new comic series kicking around in the old noggin, one of which is more likely to come to something soon than the other. So, once I have free time again, expect content.

Updates put on hold
So we all knew that at some time I would eventually have to do actual work for school. Sadly, the next two weeks are it and my update schedule is going to be tossed out the window. I’m just too exhausted to work on comics right now and need to focus on school work.

Sticky Note Comics 6: Ponyboros
A shout out to Radio Dead Air, where I first heard the ponies is the ouroboros joke. And yes, the Big Lebowski ponies is a thing.

Sticky Note Comic #5: Sean Text
Today’s comic is about my friend Sean, also known on the internet (twitter) has tehdhole. Follow him on twitter for more terrible things. We’ve started explaining everything terrible said in conversation as Seantext.

Sticky Note Comics #4: For the Kids
So here is my Desert Bus comic that was supposed to go up Saturday or Sunday. Not my best work. It was kind of a rush job. Bleh.
-
Ugh.
I’m not entirely certain how to say this, so I will just put it all out there. I recently had a tragedy befall my family that is going to make my mobile life even more mobile. I will likely spend part of this week driving from Atlanta to Chicago and back to Atlanta so I can catch a flight back to Washington D.C. Not that bad, but added to that is the fact that I just got over a two week illness and missing a week of classes and may have some long term sleeping disorder and have classwork that needs to get done. What I’m saying is that updates from me are going to be weird for the next couple of days as everything starts settling down.
Also, since I’m not certain my planned comic for this will actually go up, I need to give a brief shout out to Desert Bus For Hope. They are a charity who play the most boring game in history and embarrass themselves for donations to Child’s Play Charity. They are streaming live at Desertbus.org and going for at least another 100 hours this week. Go check them out.

Sticky Note Comic #3: Healthy Discourse.
Some of you may have noticed I didn’t post a comic a Tuesday. I was dying a horrible death. I seem to be recovering. I plan on posting a make up comic sometime this weekend. I have a lot of work to catch up on and a lot of getting ahead on other things to do.
A couple of minor things. One, I got a haircut and that may have been reflected in the comic. Mostly because I like my short hair. The only change not represented is my sideburns. I like my sideburns and I’m pissed the hairdresser shaved them off. The other is I’m still playing around with the site layout and the font. This went on kind of long.

Sticky Note Comic #2: Christmas Sneak.
I kind of really hate Christmas sneak. I really just kind of hate Christmas season, but am willing to tolerate it for about a month. Fun fact.
